A needle valve and seat are precision designed and manufactured items. Go ahead and use the hammer tecnique if you want to, but be prepared to buy another new valve and seat. I've repaired more than a few "do it yourself carb kit" carburetors that had nothing more wrong than a hammered on needle valve.
