There is a timing mark on the flywheel...the Super C fires at dead center on #1. Ideally you would have a timing light that will allow you to see where #1 is firing relative to the pointer on the flywheel. To change the timing, loosen the distributor and turn it until the timing mark is centered on the pointer (using the timing light as your guide. If you don't have a timing light, you can get close by pulling #1 plug and grounding it on the block. with the engine off and ignition on, make sure #1 is on the compression stroke and rotate the flywheel past the timing mark, trying to determine where the pulg fires relative to the timing mark and adjust by trial and error. Come to think of it, a timing light is a pretty cheap way to save time and effort...BB

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
