Hi Ralph, nice find. As Red Jed mentioned, you have found an I-4, that serial # would make it a 1947 model.Also as Red Jed mentioned, there are some differences between the industrial I-4, and the agricultural W-4 that make the I series kind of unique. Some of these are : (1) The addition of a foot operated throttle as well as a hand throttle. (2) The I series had slightly different transmission gear ratios, giving it slightly more speed than the W series. (3) The I series came with a clutch brake feature to supposedly allow for faster shifting, when the clutch pedal is fully depressed, it applies the brake. If you would like to see some beautifully restored I-4 tractors, get yourself a copy of Guy Fay, and Andy Kraushaar's book titled "Farmall Letter Series Tractors Originality Guide" It is the only book I have been able to find with good pictures of the I series tractor, at least the I-4, I have an I-6 and have yet to find any pictures of one in restored condition, still looking though. But there is a ton of info on the
I-4 in that book. Keep the board posted on what you decide to do, and out of curiosity, what is the guy asking for it?
