You are not likely to find just a shaft at a salvage yard. They are going to want to sell the PTO as an assembly.
There are two different shafts used in the dual speed PTO assemblies. Yours most likely was still the shorter one, 381504R3. Later tractors all used the longer shaft number 393111R2.
You can use the longer shaft in place of the original, you may have to extend your hitch back about two inches for some equipment. The later shaft is about 1/3 the price of the early one at the dealers. It is also available in the aftermarket. this site has it for less than $100.
