I have in my library about 30 manuals and books from the 1950s 60s and 70s. These are easily found in used bookstores and Amazon. The fundamentals are easy. Take pictures and notes. Remove through bolts. Take off end plates Get new brushes bushings and or ball bearings as needed (usually) Make sure no wiring touches the frame or end plate. (one brush will be!!connected on purpose to the end plate.) Put a new style drive pinion on the starter. If they worked before rebuild, test no further. Clean up the commutator if it is scored with strip abrasive cloth250 then 400 grit, round and round, not longways on the segments. Look at the books to find out about undercutting the segments on some. Jim
