Unfortunately you will need to change the transmission counter shaft to accept the newer style PTO unit.
There were three different style PTOs used in the H transmission. The one you took out is the first style. The other one you have is the third type. The transmission counter shaft changed when the went from the first to the second style. You will notice that the original one has a two dog engagement clutch and the later one is a spline type coupler. The second type unit used the spline counter shaft but still was the same length and size output as the original type.
