It's true, Mike, if you only intend to keep the Cub short term, and have no concern about the future owner. Long term, the grease will separate, leaving the soap behind and still allow the lubricant to escape. The end result will be the same as if it had no lubricant at all. Do yourself and your tractor a favor and figure a way to do it right. The right repair isn't difficult enough to justify putting valuable parts at risk. The jacking equipment won't cost you as much as the parts you could ruin!
