Well, every fool to his/her folly, I always say. I have a choice, and here is my criteria.
If the cost of the part exceeds the time and materials, & tools to make it, then I'll make it.
If not, then ill buy it.
Most working farmers really don't care if the part is "official" or not. whatever it takes to keep that machine operating. That was what helped did IH in more than anything, parts were so high, it opened up another market for cheaper (and often inferior) parts.
