The first thing I learned years ago when starting to work on vehicles was this, and it has saved me a lot of grief : DO NOT CLEAN WITH GASOLINE. Please, don't do it, don't recommend it. I have seen a few people who did clean with it, then apply a wire brush. Wire brushes spark. Even brass ones will spark if the holder contacts metal. Heck, even driving a nail makes sparks. If you don't believe me, drive a spark some night right at dusk. Paint thinner is actually a solvent, called " Pure Mineral Spirits ". It WILL work just as well, probably better. It will burn if sufficient heat is applied, but it doesn't explode. It is also less toxic. Gasoline penetrates the skin and is very, very bad stuff to get on you.
