It sounds like you're stuck in two gears at the same time. This happens when the shifting mechanizm gets worn and the transmission does not shift out of one gear before it shifts into another gear. This has happened on my M. I was able to remove the belt pulley assembly and disengage the gears using a pry bar. You can also disengage the gears by removing the gear shift lever and working through that opening. To fix this you need to repair the wear to the shifting mechanizm. On my M all I had to do was build up the wear on the end of the gear shift lever itself where it engages the shifting forks. My M used to lock in two gears regularly. Once I cured the wear on the end of the shifting lever it has not done it again. Hope this helps.
