Well, this is just memory from many years ago on a BD144 in a TD5 and I reserve the right to be wrong.
The indicator and glow plugs were in series and were what I will call a "balanced" system. You need all 5 resistances in series (the indicator and the 4 glow plugs) or you will burn one out.
The indicator should reasonably indicate how hot the plugs are by the color of the element. If you are white hot, your resistances are not correct. Do you have a glow plug shorted? Are all of the correct resistance?
The glow plugs and indicator will be rather low resistance but grab your meter and ohm each one indivdually. Compare the readings to see if one is way out of range with the others.
The other way to do it is to compare voltage drops across each plug (including the indicator as it is a seperate resistance). While heating, put your meter leads, one on the input wire to the plug and one on the output. Read the volts doing the same to each. All should be approx the same reading.
