They are likely the same as used in RV's, closed system Amonia absorption (NO compressor whatsoever). They require a heat source such as LP gas or 12 VDC or 120 VAC like in campers, but no reason why any fuel (Kerosene, Coal Oil, Diesel Fuel etc etc) cant be used as a heat source. Ive seen such fridges in the Amish Community where utility electricity is verboten. Theres really no moving parts and as long as theres no system leaks and the chimney etc is kept clean of carbon and soot deposits and they are proprely vented thay can last like forever lol
