Sounds like a bent fork. Had that happen w/ my M. I ended up having to replace it because the ends were worn from the angle related to the gears. Should be easy to replace or repair once you pull the platform. 5th gear is at the end of the pilot shaft and doesn't have much depth of gear mesh. So if it's bent, it'd be real easy to pop out. Don't move the other gears when you pull it off. Take your time to align everything when you put it back together.. As in aligning the forks w/ the gears. Think that's how mine got bent the first time. Had to replace most of the bearings in the rearend.
