We also have a 72 574 on the farm and we bought it in 74 with 400hrs on it and it now has 18000hrs, Did the motor at 15000hrs due to a sleeve seal and other than that we have not had a minutes problem with it, and the parking break works perfect to. Im not familiar with the fords so i can't answer that part of your question.
