I too wondered if it could be done. I've removed pump from 856 and 1456 but did it as I&T manual said. After removing pump with lines attached, I figured out pretty quick that it would be difficult, near impossible, to get the injector lines removed from and reinstalled to the ports on the side of the pump next to the block with the pump in place on the block . And remember, you need to install new gaskets to those lines when reinstalling them to the pump. There isn't room for your fingers to place the gasket, align the banjo fitting, insert the bolt that attaches the banjo fitting to the pump and then to get a grip and stroke with a wrench to tighten it. Best remove the manifold as it says and remove pump and reinstall with lines attached.

What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?").
