You dont need to do nothin but get a longer belt. While you have the lower housing off you mite want to try and get the sludge thats in that area of the block with compressed air and then water pressure. Those blocks do get plugged as the holes at the bottom of the sleeve where all the coolant flows are only the size of a nickel and they sure can get plugged. After getting the water pump on and running just water i would flush it several times to get more of the junk out. You dont need a thermostat or nothing else just the water pump and make sure your new pump somes with the pulley as sometimes the pulley isnt included.good luck
