I certainly agree with you on the octane rating requirements set by the manufacturer, but when your gas man brings the wrong stuff, and you are out a lot more than the a farm tank full of the correct gas, let alone the down time, and add the only replacement pistons available are cast not forged, which will cause further problems down the road, how does a man get ahead???
Diesel used to be cheaper than Gasoline, not now for sure. I was asking your opinion if engineering used on diesels for decades to keep combustion temps down could be retro-fitted to a gasser to prevent ANY future melt downs. What octane boosters (if any) work if all available to you is the lower octane gasoline. How does ethanol compare to 93 octane, how does a common man go about getting the correct octane each and every time all the time.
I know in aviation the fuel is sampled & tested before it is allowed to be pumped into any storage tanks.
I also agree that anyone using a gas tractor that tries to save a few dollars buying the lower octane to use in farming is certainly not going to save any money when they need an overhaul every 40 hrs.
