404: 33.5 horsepower. made from 1961 - 1967 industrial version made until 1968. came with 8 forward speed transmision, live hydraulics and 3 pt hitch. Power steering was optional. Engine was either gas or propane. 504: 40 horsepower. made from 1961 - 1968. came with TA & live hydraulics, independent pto, power steering and 3pt hitch. Engine was either gas, propane or diesel. The photos that I have seen of each tractor are very similar. The only diff. I see is that the grill frame on the 504 is white and it is red on the 404. Hope the list of options helps you narrow it down. Sorry I could not be of more help.
