Around here, in southwest Iowa, 30 to 40 years ago You could buy a Farmall M at an auction for around $500, drive it 20 miles to get home, and go straight to the field with it. Now I know the price of everything has gone up, and today I would expect to pay $1,000 to $1,500 for a good, solid M that is field ready. Even $2,500 would not be out of line for an exceptional example, but to pay $1,500 for an M that has to be loaded on a trailer and hauled home, and then spend another $1,000 to $2,000 before it is field ready is just something I will not do.
