I got your pics, they look good. First of all I thought you were talking about the main shaft, #10 and therefore the seal that was reversed on mine I beleive was #14, if memory serves me correct. anyway... I think that if the shaft that you are talking about, #15, is that loose then you have found your problem. First I see what you are talking about. Does part number 33 hold the rear bearing? it seems to me that it is a bearing retainer. It is almost like the bearing should be inside it and then it appears that part number 32 should hold the shaft. This would not allow the movement. Also, the sims (#'s 26 thru 29)have the same bolt pattern as the retainer and therefore would be the shims for aligning the shaft correctly by positioning the bearing. I may be wrong but I feel that part number 33 is your culprit. I think it is supposed to hold the shaft in place and it is not installed correctly, or is worn out. or the wrong part has been previously installed. You say you had water damage, could the bearing have rusted up and then spun and wore the retainer out? This is also confirmed to me by the fact that if the shaft is pulled forward(towards radiator) the rear bearing lines up. If I am in left field I will pull the top off the transmission on my old cub tonight, shoot I have to go out for dinner. I'll try with the flashlight since I think I only have a bolt or two in the cover.(this one is the NEXT project). Sorry I could not be of more help. Unfortunately the transmission is not something I have divulged into very far. Actually I am happy for that, but I wish I knew more. I had no time last night to pull my manuals and check but I will try harder tonight, I know what it is like trying to figure out what is going on. I would like to help you figure it out because I may encounter this problem myself and I would like to know what is wrong.

Pitfalls of Tractor Engine Rebuilds - by Chris Pratt. The first pop after you have put the machine together with your own hands is exciting and pleasing. The whole experience can be marred if one moves too fast and makes too many assumptions that they can just use "as is" some parts they should be closely scrutinizing and possibly attended to. In such cases, rework makes what could have been a fun project turn into an irritant or even a nightmare. Minor Irritants To give you an example of an minor but irritating proble
