Brian: I realize this is a reply to a very old post but I thought I'd add it anyway. I grew up in Canton and lived there when the factory closed in 1983. Many friends were forced to move away with their families due to the closure. I remember growing up to the old steam whistle that went silent when they shut down the steam plant for the factory. I went to many a school lunches and got out of many days at school by that whistle. You could hear it all over town, and even several miles out of town. There is a web site with a pretty extensive history of the industry in Canton, which includes quite a bit about P&O Plow Works and International Harvester (including pictures of the factory). The URL is http://members.xoom.com/_XMCM/CantonIL/industry.html Also, if you didn't know, most of the old factory (over four city blocks worth) burned in 1997. The above link talks about that quite extensively as well. They're still cleaning up the rubble to this day. I hope you or someone else finds value in this. Enjoy!!!
