I know thermostats were designed to make the engine run more efficient by bringing it up to operating temp faster. The water bypass in any cooling system is so the w/p can circulate the coolant to prevent hot spots in the cooling system when the stat is closed. Since there is no pressure in this system and you will have constant flow through the rad, I don't see a problem with pressure. There is a vent hole rifled through the stat casting to relieve any trapped air and pressure if the stat were to be closed, like all stats have. I know if I were to ever want it to warm up in the winter time I would have to fab some kind of shutter system. Thanks for all of your replies, just trying to figure out if it is a good or dumb idea.
