Like mentioned below, your u-joints on your PTO shaft will let you know if you've turned too sharp...but, turning a bit too short while they're not under load and letting them chatter once in awhile won't damage much. Best bet is to just get out there and mow with it, you'll get a feel for what's ok and what's not from the seat of your pants-which will be the best source of advice you'll find.
