I haul my F-20 on my trailer all the time, and I don't take the wheels off. I run the tractor up to the fenders. Chain her down, and place 3 rear wheel weights off a Farmall A at the front of the trailer for counter balance. I have hauled the F-20 hundreds of miles that way, and also through an PA state police check point, with no issues. I also just brought home a 1928 Regular on full steel that way.
The tires/wheels overhand the deck by 4" on either side, BUT the important thing is that it is still inside the width of the fenders, so no issues with "wide" load.
I also hauled an F-30 with the wheels off, and yes, slid it on the bull grear housing. That worked fine too.
Either way works, just remember to bind it down well. I prefer chains, and have never had an issue with the police or check points that way.
If I get a chance, I will post a picture or two of how she looks sitting on the trailer.
