if i had no free playplay in the clutch i would not even think of doing any heavy pulling. thats the most important adjustment. just asking for trouble by slipping it. have anykind of free play is better than no freeplay. but if its slipping the damage may already be done, meaning clutch job. to adjust for freeplay adjust the clutch rod so you have about 3/4 to 1" between trans cover and clutch petal where it rests.
