My guess is that the leak is not related to the brake adjustment but rather to running the tractor again after many years. Old seals do dry out, crack and stuff when the machine is not used. You will need to replace them, check bearings and adjustment, clean the shaft and be sure there is not a groove worn where the seal runs.
