I agree it's not related to the brake adjustment, but if you're not up to tackling the seal replacement, here's something else to think about, besides keeping an eye on the oil level in your transmission.

I had leaky seals, and the oil leaks into the cavity wherein lies the brake drum and brake band. However, there is a 'weep hole' in the casting (shown in the pic) so that as the oil oozes, it runs down the internal part of the casting and exits to the ground, rather than filling up that cavity. One side of mine had a clump of chaff (mouse nest?) that was plugging the weep hole
There isn't much room in there with the drum and band...
Might want to run a dowel or wire up in there to make sure it stays open, if it hasn't been used in a while, so a nest doesn't settle over the hole, or your brake band might wind up like mine...
