I have a 51 M with 450 sleeves in it. It can be done. It is correct that there isn't much metal left after boring the block for the sleeves, but a lot of that depends on the condition of your block to begin with. There is an engine builder nearby that regularly puts 450 sleeves in M blocks. I have even seen them break through to the water jacket slightly, but when the sleeves are set, this isn't a big issue either. I say go for it!
