Timming f20 mag.

My father restored a 1939 f20 that was my grandfathers first tractor . Any ways this tractor was worked on by another person before my dad got it back,and would not start we found out that the mag. was off when you put it on top dead center the mag. was I think 180 off so #1 was 3. So I changed the wires around and it started right up and runs fine at a idle but when you throdle up it spits and suputters like the stattic timming is just off a little. Now I need help!! HELP!!!! thankx steve
