Thx so much to all for the help on this. I finally got the whole thing apart and it appears the sect. brg. is the big culprit. Some one said earlyer that "the top of the gearbox has a pipe plug and a grease zerk because the the top(sector bbrg. has no way to get lubrication. For whatever reason, IH inspecter oversight or whatever,there is NO grease fitting on top that gearbox. As a result,that upper brg. is a rusty mess with lots of extra play. The sector bushing looked worn a bit too. to be on the safe side I'm changing both of the brg.,seals,and bushings. MUCH THANKS AGAIN TO ALL FOR THE ADVISE.
