Yes the salt is a big proablem. If you change the tire presure to suit the various jobs some always gets out, and the valve will start leaking after awhile. I used a steam cleaner to remove all traces of salt off the rim, previous owner had a drip and the rim needs repainting, and replace one wedge bolt thats almost rotted through! Have 13.6-38 Field & Road. Leaving it in is not a choice for me, not much to lose as these rims are bent and buggered at the flanges, but they work, can't argue with success.
