Remove the coil lead from the distributor cap and hold it about 1/4 inch from a good ground on the engine and with the switch on start cranking and observe the spark. Do this under cold and hot conditions. If the spark is reduced under hot conditions you will need access to a good voltmeter and check out the ignition along with the battery. If the starter is dragging it could reduce the voltage to the ignition. Aditionally, you may have a problem that is heat related in the coil. Post your findings and we will continue to assist if required.
