The splined drive for the hydraulic pumps and PTO is probably worn out. When the clutch is pushed in the crank end play, and metal flex combine to allow the most worn spot to slip. A split is required. This is my best guess, as it is the only thing in that assembly that could be affected by the clutch. Jim
