Excessive is more than .001" up and down and sideways, (not in and out). If the cam bushing is OK, then the Petronix system will be fine. If it is worn, the system will have variability between the magnet ring, and the pickup, if not contact! The advance mechanism and shaft on shaft fit must also be good. Best of luck. Jim
