If it smells flooded, you'll never in this lifetime crank it hard enough to get it dried out and running. Check your float setting, and don't over-choke it. If your fuel pump is questionable, set up a temporary gravity feed using a lawn mower tank to feed the carb. Check to see that you're getting a good hot spark at the plug. I've been known to heat the plugs up with a propane torch to dry them out and clean them up. It helps. Double check to make sure you have the valve lash set right. If one or more valves aren't closing all the way, you get little or no compression, and it won't start. Once I got my carb tweaked right, the mag timing spot on and the plugs cleaned, mine will usually start in one or two cranks. [Unless someone I'm trying to impress is watching ":^( ] I use the following procedure: 1. Fuel on 2. Trans in neutral 3. Mag advance to just over half-way 4. Crack the throttle just enough to put a little tension on the spring. 5. No choke unless it's quite cold, say 40 degrees or less. 6. Crank slowly until it comes up on compression, just before the impulse clicks. You may go past a couple of times until you get a feeling for where this point is. 7. Pull up sharply. 8. Repeat 6 and 7 until it starts. If, after a couple of good pulls, it doesn't at least fire, try ONE PULL with the choke on. It's easy to flood, and when you do, you might just as well go have a cup of coffee until it evaporates. Hope this helps. Let us know how you make out.
