You probably should pull the head and soak the pistons with atf and let it soak. I had a 1966 Ford Mustang with the 200cid engine and it was bought used and didn't have that many miles on it. It kept fouling plugs and I borrowed a borescope light from work and I looked into each cylinder and I've never seen so much carbon. I pulled the head and the combustion chambers were loaded with carbon. I decide to pull the pistons and the rings were full of carbon too and the oil holes in the pistons were plugged. We did the valve job at work and I used the wire brush on a grinder to clean the carbon off and my co-worker ground the valves. The floor was covered with carbon and we had to clean that too.
