Go to CIH and get a carb. service package #354 454 R92 it worked wonders for mine,also make sure your float is`nt leaking or saturated if it`s cork.
The hot start problem could be your condenser they`re heat sensitive, or if you`ve replaced your coil make sure you got the non-resitor type.
Most used grills are shot(assuming you mean the fibreglass housing),if you could buy a new one they would be $400.00+.
I made my own from 1/8" plate weld/grind,weld/grind,lead & bondo, it turned out great and looked better than factory.
