Although IH usually recommended that the rim width could be 1 inch less than the tread width, the tires fit better and are curved less if the tread width is the same as the rim width. Example is that the 13.6-38 has a 12 inch tread width, thus fits a 12 inch rim better than an 11 inch rim. Likewise a 14.9-38 tire with 13 inch tread width fits a 13 inch rim best. The tread width was used in the old tire size, they did not change the tire. Thus 12/13.6 are the same size tire as are 13/14.9. There is not old size for the 15.5. 15.5 has only a 0.6 inch wider cross section than a 14.9 (I don't know the exact tread width of a 15.5), so it can go on a 13 or 14 inch rim. After saying all of this, my 460 had 15.5's on a 12 inch rim, they looked ok to me, but had to be misfitted to a certain extent. I replaced them with 13.6's; they fit perfectly and and better than the 13.6's on 11 inch rims on my M. To use double bevel rims on an H or M, you also have to have the cast centers off a later 300 or 350 or 460 for an H; or 400, 450,or 560 for an M. the 6 "spoke" centers will not accept the double bevels.

I’d probably plowed about 3000 acres (in my head anyway) by the time they found me. This is where my love for tractors started and has only gotten worse in my tender 50 yrs on this “green planet”. I’m par
