I don't think the 504 replaced the 340. The 504 is 46 hp and the 340 is 34hp. The 504 is 900lbs heavier shipping lbs then the 340. I don't know anything about the 340 but we had a 504 on the farm (new) and its the only farmall the left the farm after a short stay. Never like it, always had a wine in the rear and I thought the old M was more tractor which is what we were replacing it with. Traded it on a 806 and its still on the farm, tach broke at 15000 hours and that was 15 years ago. Still going.
