The early rear ends were similar in design but not the same. In the early design phases the 560 was slated to come out with only 40 some horse but when IH heard about the competition they turned up the rpms resulting in more horsepower, and in 1958 making the 560 the biggest tractor available..............until Deere in 60 starting the power race. You can search through the archives for all this information as it has been discussed before. As to your carb question I am sure something was done before production started, but have never heard or read that the carbs were touched in the tent cities.
