Talk to him about your plans for it, and discuss keeping it out of the scraper's hands. Discuss the reality of working on an unknown stuck engine, and that you have a desire to spend the time and effort to make it function once again.
Discuss oppornitues he might have to see it, or (better yet) help, or drive it when done. Discuss the reality of scrap price, and the sdded factor of the condition of all but the Stuck engine, and let him know the going price is in the area of 450 to 600. The tactics are realistic to a person with attachment to a tractor that ment dramatic help to his farm.
