Hey guys, here's my antics from last saturday...
To start with, My new to me 450 Diesel has a ever so small fuel leak on one of the lines, either before the filters or between the filters and the pump. So, I shut the diesel tank off to stop the small leak. With no fuel to put pressure on it, it would stop leaking.
So, this weekend a buddy of mine wanted to dig some postholes in the backyard. Some were in a spot too tight to put their 656 with the loader, so we decided to use my 450. I fired up the tractor, and drove 2 miles down to his cousin's house to get the posthole auger. We then wresteled it onto the tractor, and proceeded to BS for about 15 minutes. About that time, the tractor started to Idle funny, and then just died. Dummy! I forgot to turn on the diesel fuel at the tank! So, I turned it on, fired up the tractor on gas cycle, and opened up the diesel throttle to full, and waited a minute or two for it to smoke again, and then I switched it back over to diesel and all was well again.
Now, I've always heard people say those gas start diesels are pretty cheap to run, (Grandpa included), that's one of the reasons I bought it, but this has to take the cake. It had to have ran close to half an hour on the amount of fuel in the filters. Including driving it full throttle down the road for 2 miles!
Thought you guys might get a chuckle at my expense... No harm no foul I guess.
