I had bought a "New" starter rather than rebuilt, but had problems with it, got another New replacement & had the same problem, wouldn't always en-gauge after the initial start. Found a major manufacturing defect- it was made in India!. Anyway, when it started, it spun the gear back & would get stuck/ hung up on a poorly machined part at the rear of the shaft. Drove me nuts till I figured what the problem was, so if you still have your starter, might be just as well getting it rebuilt ! AL
