Hole in differential shaft housing

I recently purchased a 1950 Farmall super "A". When I added lubricant to the rear axle housing it ran out a hole in the bottom of the differential shaft housing. The hole is located just to the right of the left flange of the housing and is approximately 3/4" in diameter.
Question: What is this hole and should it be stopped up? If so with what. It is not detailed in the Parts Manual and no plugs are listed.
I also need a part number for the transmission drain plug.
Any help will be much appreciated.
