Front pulleys can be stubborn. There are a couple of guys here that have fashioned power pullers from heavy plate steel and 12-20 ton bottle jacks. Even then they have been defeated by a badly stuck pulley.
You don't want to pull on the pulley without AT LEAST a bearing separator. Even if you heat the pulley with a torch, it still may pull harder than the belt flange can take.
We pulled the front pulley on our M with just a puller and heat, but I think we were VERY lucky.
Bearing separators are relatively cheap and a good addition to your toolbox.
