Our Super c had that problem for years, replaced clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing and pilot bearing......little improvement.

Last year, it started knocking right at the back end of the torque tube.. I looked up at the shaft while it was running through the clutch adjustment hole in the bottom of the torque tube. it was running crooked, and not true.

I split the tractor and replaced the trans joint. it was totally worn out. The tractor shifted easily then.

My guess that the worn joint caused the rear of the shaft to wobble, and that would cause the clutch disc to wobble slightly fore and aft in the flywheel giving just enough bind not to spin down..

A worn pilot bearing will give you fits too.
