What makes you think you flooded it? Was it dripping gas?
Try turning the gas off completely, and starting while the gas is off. If the carb is dripping while you're doing this, wait a while, and re-try. At some point the carb will drain enough to be at the right level to run properly.
If it catches, quickly turn the gas back on.
That should at least get you running again, but it of course doesn't solve the underlying problem.
Although, sometimes you just need to get things flowing and they magically fix themselves.
Hard to say just what the problem is since this is your first run. But if you do get it running again, that should at least give you more information to go on.
