The spacing in the picture is correct. I have 2 F series tractors now with a number of original decals still in place and visible. Let me tell you, IHC did NOT worry about perfect placement. In fact, the drawbar decal on the tank of my F-14 looks like the guy was drunk when he put it on.
So, my opinion is that location is important, exact orientation in that location is not so important. Make it look good, and keep it evenly spaced. Leave the micrometers in the tool box.
