A lot of misinformation about the 26 series tractors...
Both 26 series tractors were introduced late in 56 series production, pretty much as "fill in" models until the 66 series came out.
The 1026 is diesel hydro only. It is basically just a 1256 with a hydro transmission.
The 826 has gas, diesel, gear drive, and hydro versions. There are a few different stories out there about why there is an 826.
I've read that the 756 was discontinued and the 826 replaced it, which doesn't make sense because all the references list 756 serial numbers from 1967-1971, and 826 serial numbers from 1969-1971. By that, both tractors were made simultaneously for 3 years.
I've heard that it's a "european" tractor imported. Don't even know what to make of that story.
I've heard that it was a "cheap" tractor designed to compete with John Deere's 4000. Most 826's I've seen look pretty deluxe to me...
IMHO, the 826 is simply a tractor that fills the ~25HP gap between the 756 and 856. There were no model numbers left between 756 and 856 so IH had to improvise.

Well, when our family moved to our 20 acre site near New Prague, Minnesota, I had one thought in mind. You guessed it, farm it somehow. A little history is in order. In my younger days, mom, dad and my brother made frequent visits to dad's youngest brother Pete, who took over the home farm from grandpa MIke. It was the typical set-up, milk cows, pigs & chickens. In the winter, we'd play
