A very good running 350DU is a efficient tractor. The engine is made by Continental, not IH. It is a fairly unique engine and parts are costly but available. They are difficult starting engines, there are no glow plugs. A intake manifold heater is supposed to preheat the intake charge of air to assist starting. It works OK at 50 degrees and above. It does not work at 30 degrees. Our neighbor owns one and has given it a whif of ether almost from the first day to get it fired up. Ether is usually not the friend of diesel engine life, but works if applied sparingly. The tractor is robust and handy in every way. It will use fuel at 2/3 the rate of the gas version, but produce a tad less power. If it is in great condition, and if the price is in the 3000 to 3500 zone with good tires, And you can live with a hard starting tractor that is not good for start stop off on idle yard work, but needs real work for several hours to be comfortable, buy it.
